  I am looking for a change from the U.S.A. I retire in 3 years and was looking at Costa Rica but it has gotten to expensive. I am afraid that in 3 years Ecuador will be to expensive also, so I am planning on visiting soon to see if it will be a good place to retire to.   We will be in Ecuador from early December through early April, and hopefully for about 6 months each year after that. We spent a few weeks in Cuenca last year and loved it. That will be our starting point this time. We think we'd like to find a furnished rental for the 3 months, and then travel. We're interested in seeing Vilcabamba and the coast, and my husband would like to take a couple of great hikes. Would appreciate any communication from expats regarding these areas, and are especially interested in rental information for Cuenca (or other areas; we're flexible right now). Would like 2 bedrooms, but 1 might be fine; mainly want a nice terrace or patio, a place to be outside. Safe, clean, pretty; walking distance to old town would be our first choice. Want something we can enjoy, but are definitely interested in the lower rents available in Ecuador! Appreciate any help. Also interested in inexpensive place to stay when we first arrive, for a week or so. Perhaps even a nice hostel. Thanks!
